The Louisville Free Public Library in Louisville, KY was hit with a horrific storm, and was flooded yesterday. I started hearing about it on Twitter, then FriendFeed, and later on Facebook. But the messages weren’t like typical “oh, we have a little water in here” ones that sometimes come through. Each one was worse than the one before it, and it quickly became clear that the damage was of a massive scale.  The initial damage estimates are around $1 million, but a lot of us are guessing it’ll be more.

Greg Schwartz, librarian and podcaster extraordinaire, has been twittering with updates and photos if you’re interested in what’s going on.

Steve Lawson has set up a paypal account for donations going to the library, in the name of the Library Society of the World. As soon as I hit “publish” on this post, I’m going right over to give a donation myself. I’m sure the Louisville residents will appreciate anything you’d like to contribute. Thanks to Steve for setting this up!
