Ebooks and Blog posts

It’s been a bit crazy lately. One big change I’ve noticed in myself is that I used to only really care if my work was contributing to the larger profession in a positive way. Now, I’m also looking for some kind of win each day to help make it feel like each day is worth dropping Leif off at daycare. That means lots of little good things are happening!

I forgot to mention the other day that I put up an ALA Learning post on Getting the Word Out early in the year.

I also had the amazing geeky pleasure of checking out several ebook readers from my library!

I made little videos to help folks at work with understanding the differences between the three, which you can see here:

A Brief Overview of All Three

The Kindle

The Nook

The Sony Reader

So, lots of little, fun things! Still working on pulling together the little things into the bigger picture work again, though. :)

  2. Lauren – at my local train station there is a billboard for a recruitment agency stating they can help you get a job whether you define success as “making the news, or making it home in time for the news”. My kids are all in high school now and I love my job but I am definitely in the ‘make it home in time for the news’ category. Enjoy that baby!

Oh, and thanks for the e-reader videos, I’m a luddite when it comes to these, my twitter stream is on about them all the time so now I feel I can keep up a bit :-)

  3. Hey Lauren, this was really helpful. Do any of these Ebook readers let you download pdfs? That seems to be where my electronic reading life exists. Or, is that an advantage of the IPad?

Miss you but enjoy the virtual connect!

  4. Sue, good to hear from you!! Yes, you can get PDFs on all of these devices (+ipad). The way of getting them on the device varies and the way it displays might vary as well. I know form personal experience on the Nook that page numbering is maintained, but if there is a lot of text, a given page may take several clicks to progress through.

  5. Hi lauren
I enjoyed the demo of the readers and like the blog. I’m a writer of existential novels about life and love, written on a canvass of fictional science. I’m working on my 4th book so I’m offering my first novel eBook for free to your blog readers if you like. It can be read on PC, Kindle, Nook iPad, etc. I hope you enjoy the story… Ray

  6. Lauren – Thanks for your thorough review of these readers. I bought a Kindle for my husband last year which he loves. You are right about having to be careful with it. The corner is cracked already, although it still functions properly.

  7. I spend more time reading e-Books now because I enjoy the convenience of the ebook reader. I have several I use in different places including my auto, a good source of my time when I take my mother to shop.
I’m usually perusing through the ebook store and purchase a couple for use at my work and a game for leisure time.

  8. Wow! Thanks for the detailed explanation about the 3 ebook reader…

Based on what you said, I think I would prefer to use the Sony Reader because it easier to navigate or browse because it is just a Touch Screen.

Maybe, I would shift from kindle to Sony Reader now
