  • Showed a home-made teleprompter: about $120 in materials, knowledge of high school physics, and can create a teleprompter. Instructions here. Puts words right over the camera, if set 10 feet away you can’t tell they’re reading.
  • Talked about lighting: broad and even lighting is necessary. Showed an emergency blanket from BigLots that can diffuse light if placed properly. If shooting outdoors, can use those shiny car windshield reflectors for the same purpose.
  • Chromakey: If making a green screen, must have a very clear color, very saturated. Make sure to evenly light it. Use something like Adobe Premier Studio to remove green/blue background and overlay the videos. Sourceforge might have free ones.
  • Camera Dollies: T-shape to support 3 tripod feet, can create a “T” out of PVC pipe to allow camera to sit on a dolly, large coasters on the bottom so you can slide it.

When I first read the title of this post I thought it was about making beer and realized maybe I’ve been going to the wrong conferences.
