Notes: Tri-IT Meeting

Today I’m at UNC-G with a few of my coworkers and we’re at the Tri-IT meeting. This group meets to talk about what’s going on in technology and instruction, the library, etc. It’s my first meeting.

We started with introductions and favorite technologies. Some of the useful things we heard about included:

  • Duke is doing Librarians in Blackboard… embedding them in courses. They’re working with a few other universities looking into this program.
  • Duke mentioned the LINK in the library, the instructional technology space that has a lot of tools for instructors to try things out.
  • Ambassadors program, like a focus group of faculty for instructional technology.
  • Trying out scheduling workshops in clumps when faculty might be more likely to attend.
  • Several mentioned looking into varying course management systems.
  • Discussion of intercoms in classrooms, both for connecting to tech help as well as the police for security purposes.
  • Collaborative Services Workgroup is a regional network that also covers K-12 and community colleges. Examines tools and works on pilot projects across the system. For example, unified ID across Blackboards.
  • Gaming for learning at UNC.
  • A&T is growing their instructional design program.

Favorite Tools/Favorite Resources Roundtable

  • Talked about Google Forms
  • Making Change for tips and trends that might be useful in instruction.
  • WFU brought up Zotero.
  • adding “&as_qdr=d” at the end of a Google search query URL will allow you to filter by date. See here.
