MacWorld and the changing information environment

My last midwinter meeting finished at 10am this morning and my flight isn’t until 7ish, so I have several hours to kill. I’ve packed up, checked out of the hotel, eaten lunch, and am about to start typing up some notes. However, today is special. It’s also MacWorld, where Apple reveals all their new toys.

I’m following the coverage here.

Nearly every announcement Steve Jobs makes has implications for information seeking as far as I’m concerned. Easy back up of all Macs in one house to one device? People might become better at archiving their own information, or at least it causes people to think about preservation issues. Location aware iPhones? Probably going to impact people expectation of mobile services and instant access to information. A rental queue for movies that can work on multiple devices? Apple’s clearly catering to user expectations.

Anyway, I’m waiting for word about the ultra portable laptop, but just wanted to stop in.

(This is what happens to my blog when Twitter’s down.)
