Between a break and lunch, we met our groups (yay!). We filled out a leadership action plan for ourselves, and shared strengths and weaknesses with our group.
MS mentioned “facilitative leadership” and “resonant leadership.” These sound like interesting concepts and I would like to look into this further. Anyone have any recommended readings? (update: this was asked in the group. MS recommended Robert Kelley’s work on shared leadership. Will post to wiki later.)
MS has a vision that much library work could be self directed, with less focus on management, if people are motivated, engaged, and have the skills.
MS talked about changing the structure of ALA from the ground up. There’s a lot of talk about that here. One of the questions that was mentioned was “what new and different ways could more people be involved in ALA?” We talked about this in our last team meeting at work. I was surprised how enthusiastic everyone was about the idea of virtual participation; getting involved without paying to travel or leaving family. This is a key pieces of the puzzle, I think.
