instructional design librarian: me

It was announced in our staff meeting on Thursday. When I graduate from library school, I will be the instructional design librarian for the Z. Smith Reynolds Library. I’m pretty excited about it. This is a new position, so though there is a job description, it is not very specific.  What is clear, is that there is a lot of room to do really interesting things involving instruction, reference, and technology. I have some ideas brewing, and as soon as I officially start, I’ll begin working on them (there’s a lot to do to tie up things in my current position). As has been the case, I won’t blog about the specifics of my workplace here, but you will definitely see an increase in postings dealing with instruction, instructional design, information literacy, media literacy, and technologies to support learning. You’ll also see more postings on computer culture, as I mentioned the other day. I actually think the two go pretty well together.

This means it’s also time to unsubscribe to some blogs and to subscribe to others. Do you have any recommendations for someone starting out as an instructional design librarian?

Congratulations! I was IMing with a mutual acquaintance the other day and we both said, “Whoever gets Lauren when she’s done with her degree is going to be so lucky!” So nice that your current employer thinks the same thing. :)

Aw, shucks, Megan! Thanks for your kind words! It is really exciting to be at a place where I’m able to do interesting things and where they like me enough to keep me around. :) Having a job lined up makes the whole graduation thing a lot more fun, too. :)
